Synchronic Blow Off Valve

Reader Reviews September 16, 2009

Synchronic Blow Off Valves (BOV) are designed to release intake system air pressure on turbocharged engines when you ease up on the throttle. *gasp* turbo on a muscle car?! Yes, some enthusiasts rather enjoy getting the most from their engines and opt for turbo instead of a blower or nitrous. We all have our preferences, which usually involve adding horsepower, so if you’re in the market for a BOV there are some things you need to know because they aren’t all created equally.

First, make sure you haven’t confused a Blow Off Valve (BOV) with a Compressor Bypass Valve (CBV) or diverter valve as they perform different tasks. The blow-off valve releases the pressure into the air where the other types release it back into the system. You CAN use a blow off valve recirculate the air but venting it to atmosphere is more practical and other components exist to perform otherwise.

A Synchronic Blow Off Valve is design to be a pull-type valve which means it remains closed under boost pressure without leaking even under 100+ psi of boost. It stays in a normally open position until required. To maximize BOV performance it is best to install the Synchronic BOV in a re-circulated configuration and to position it between the MAF sensor and turbocharger inlet. Synapse Engineering makes the BOV pictured above.

As you can see in the video they aren’t all made the same, the video portrays an excellent example of a “surge” condition on a lesser quality blow off valve. Synapse engineering makes a Universal blow off valve with the following specifications.

  • Universal
  • Synchronic BOV SB001A Black Body/Silver Cover
  • SB001.2A 304SS weld flange package
  • 1.25” Silver Aluminum recirculation fitting
  • Adjustment Allen Key
